Mike has been involved in theatre since the late ninties when he first started writing, directing and acting with UCC's drama society.
He has directed and written plays for numerous drama groups throughout Ireland. The first overseas professional performance of one of his plays was staged at the 2024 INK short play festival in Halesworth in England.
Mike is also a succesful writer of fiction. He won the Bryan McMahon short story award at Listowel Writers week in 2022. His writing has been included in the Irish publications such as The Irish Independent, The Holly Bough, Howl, Swerve and many other literary journals in Ireland, America and India.
He also writes poetry, primarily humourous for performance at strawings, rambling houses and open mic nights. One of his poems was second in the Jester of the Kingdom Poetry Competition in 2019.
He was the recipient of an Agility Award from the Arts Council and an Artist's Bursary from Cork County Council in 2023.
